We can move your data from QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) to QuickBooks Online (QBO) by using a migration tool, Liza12.

Before that, please take the time to understand how features and data are transferred from QBDT to QBO to comprehend the differences after the process.

Then, subscribe to QBO, and if you already have an account, you have ninety days from the time you create your account to move your data.

Let's start the migration process by backing up your company file to restore your accounting data in case you encounter a problem. Then, get your file ready for migration.

Also, if you don't have access to your QBDT account or are using 2021 and older versions, you'll have to use the web-based migration tool. Otherwise, you can use the migration tool built into QuickBooks Desktop. Here's how:

  1. Sign in as an admin in QBDT and export your company file.
  2. For QBDT Pro and Premier, go to Company, then select Export Your Company File to QuickBooks Online.
  3. Press CTRL + 1 to open the Product Information window. Then press CTRL + B + Q and select OK for QBDT Enterprise.
  4. Select Get Started.
  5. In the prompt message, select how you want to move your data. You can choose whether to Bring all of your company data or Bring only lists and balances.
  6. For inventory, choose Yes, track inventory using FIFO, then select a starting date, or No, don’t move inventory. You can move your inventory manually later.
  7. Choose a home currency if you use multi-currency.
  8. When asked if you have a QBO account, select Yes, sign me in, then click Continue.
  9. Sign in to your QBO account. From the list, choose the company you want to move your data to.
  10. Click Continue and select Export.

Once done, get started with QBO to familiarize yourself with the navigation process. You can also run various reports to see the data that was migrated from QBDT.

If you need additional assistance migrating your file, please don't hesitate to reply to this post. We're available 24/7 to help you.

@liza12   Don't do it.  You WILL regret switching.

QBO is NOT user friendly.  It is ALWAYS broken. It doesn't have all the same functions and features of Desktop.  Don't let ANYONE fool you. QBO is NOT a good thing.

But don't just take my word for it.  Look through the community and see for yourself.

Have you tried the new desktop view for QBO?
