Hi,

How do I copy the chart of accounts from one company to a new company?

QuickBooks Desktop

Sorry, not so tech savy.

We have one QB desktop.

Multiple Trusts.  I'm going to create a company w/in the current QB (desktop).  It'll show up in open previous companies.

How do I copy the chart of accounts I created in an existing company into the new company?

Looking for the simple solution, like a copy and paste.

No canceling subscription, etc.

QB desktop.

Thank you!

It's my pleasure to help you copy your Chart of Accounts from your existing company file to a new company file in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), NameUser.

When importing your Chart of Accounts to another company file, you'll need to use a spreadsheet in an Excel file. First, let's export your lists of accounts by following these steps:

  1. Go to the File menu, then select Utilities
  2. Select Export, then Lists to IIF Files.
  3. Select the list you want to export,(which is Chart of Accounts) then select OK.
  4. Browse the location where you want to save your file and select Save.

Once done, you can open the other company file as Administrator and import the file. Here's how:

  1. Go to the File menu, then select Utilities.
  2. Select Import, then IIF Files.
  3. Import the Chart of Accounts.

I navigated to 'Utilities' then 'export', next 'lists to IFF files. But I am unable to save the file to my usb drive. What am I missing?

@dcrom  Depends on what you mean by 'But I am unable to save the file to my usb drive'.

Can you not find the USB drive?

Does it not allow you to save it once you find it?

Something else?
