There was an erroneous payment posted to a leaseholder and now the 1099-MISC is overstated.  It has already been filed through QBO and accepted by the IRS.  How can I correct this?

Thank you for contacting us. We are glad to help you correct the 1099 that you have filed inside QuickBooks Online (QBO), @tdillon8665.

Once you have filed your form with the IRS, they may be processing or have already approved it. You will receive an email confirmation approximately one week after the IRS accepts and confirms your submission.

Since you have already e-filed your 1099s with the IRS, it is best to wait for them to receive your form before making any corrections. If you need to fix any issues with your 1099, you will have to get a printed copy and manually send it to the IRS. We have provided the steps below to assist you with filing the amended form:

  1. Order 1099-NEC IRS forms online at IRS Online Ordering for Information Returns and Employer Returns.
  2. Fill out the 1099-NEC form and enter the correct Social Security Number.
  3. Tick the Corrected box.
  4. Once done, mail the form to the IRS.

For more details, feel free to visit this page: Correct or change 1099s in QuickBooks.

Additionally, you can check this page in case you want to review your previous year filings inside the program: View your previously filed tax forms and payments

In QBO, we can run several payroll reports to view relevant information about your business' finances. This way, we can display the details about your past paychecks, payroll deductions and taxes, and a list of payments made to your contractors.

If you have clarifications about making corrections to your 1099s, please leave a reply below. We're always available to attend to your concerns. Have a great day!
