Question

How do I e-file a 1099 that I've already printed? I printed up the 1099 and did not see an e-file option.

Let me help you on how to e-file a printed 1099 in QuickBooks Online, @Rudy1234.

When e-filing a 1099 form, note that you need to have a Contractor Payments or Payroll subscription to have an option of e-file. If you're already subscribed from those, you can normally see the e-file option after you click the Continue to 1099-MISCs in viewing your 1099-MISC forms. Let me share some steps from creating the 1099 from to as your guide on where to see the e-file option in QBO:

  1. In Payroll, go to Contractors and click Prepare 1099s.
  2. Check if your company details is correct. Click Edit to make changes and choose Confirm info and get started
  3. Select or confirm an accounts used for 1099 expenses and payments, then click Add.
  4. Choose the 1099-NEC or 1099-MISC boxes which shows type of payments made to your contractors next to each account added.
  5. Put a checkmark next to the contractor who'll get a 1099.
  6. Review the Reportable total amount of each selected contractors and click Next.
  7. To view the amount in each box, select Preview and click Continue to 1099-MICs to view 1099 forms.
  8. Once done, choose Continue to E-file.
