Question

How do I find out the status of 1099's. Our subcontractors have not yet received them?

We entered them on 1/3/24.  None of our subcontractors have received them.  How can we be sure they were mailed out?

based on other similar questions here, they waited until (or after) Jan 31st for any physical mail-outs. the help desk person who called couldn't tell me anything other than "they should have them in early February".

Hi there, @Mary708. I'm happy to provide additional information about your 1099 filing status in QuickBooks Online.

 

By utilizing our e-file service before January 28, your contractors will receive their 1099 forms via email to the addresses listed in their profiles by January 31. We'll notify you of your filing status via email after you file 1099s with the IRS.

 

You can also check your filing status anytime in QuickBooks Online. The status of your e-filed 1099 can be viewed under Filing status. It can either be one of the following:

 

  • Not Submitted: You haven't e-filed the forms with the IRS. Thus, you can keep revising it as needed.
  • Submitted: You have e-filed the form to the IRS. This can also be shown as Sent on your screen. If you need to revise it, you'll need to file a manual amendment.
  • Received by IRS: The IRS has received your form. They could be currently processing it or have already approved it. You'll receive an email confirmation approximately a week after the IRS accepts and confirms submissions.

 

If your contractor hasn't received your forms yet, we suggest contacting our Payroll support for further assistance obtaining 1099 forms.

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online company.
  2. Go to Help (?).
  3. Select Contact Us.
  4. Enter your concern, then select Let's Talk.
  5. Choose a way to connect with us:
  • Start a chat with a support expert.
