Question

How do I remove/hide past bin locations from inventory items?

I would like to remove old bin locations from an inventory item. We move our product regularly and would like to be able to hide the old bin locations and only have the default location showing.

It is difficult to run inventory reports with zero qty showing on current bins, as all the old locations also show up. I would like only the default locations with zero to show up.

Is there a way to do that.

Thank you for visiting us today, @ALGLP.

I can help you remove/hide the past bin locations of your inventory items. You have the option to turn of the tracking of bin locations.

Here's how:

  1. Click Edit.
  2. Choose Preferences.
  3. Select the Items & Inventory tab.
  4. Choose the Company Preferences.
  5. Click Advanced Inventory Settings.
  6. Uncheck the Track Bin Locations within Inventory Sites (row, shelf, or bin) box.
  7. Click OK.

After modifying your preferences, the inventory items no longer has the bin location field. For additional reference, you can check this article: Set up Advanced Inventory.

Keep me posted if you have other questions about inventory, ALGLP. I'm here to provide more help. Have a good one.

Honey Lynn,

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately this takes the bins away. I only want it to take the bins that do not have any inventory away.

If you look below. I would like all the old locations with 0 to go away or be able to hide them.

Hello there, ALGLP.

There's no option to hide a bin location at this time. I'd suggest sending a feature request to have this option added in QuickBooks Desktop. The updates we roll out are usually based on the suggestions that we receive from our customers.

Just visit our feedback site and share your thoughts and suggestions there: https://feedback.qbo.intuit.com/.

Please let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks for joining us here in the Community, 32957888.

As of now, removing or hiding zero inventories is still not available in QuickBooks Desktop. While doing it is not yet available, I'd suggest sending a feature request about adding more customization options for sales transactions. You can send it directly to our engineers from your company file. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Help menu, scroll-down to Send Feedback Online, and then click Product Suggestion
  2. Enter all required details.
  3. Click Send Feedback.

In the meantime, check out these articles for additional details and references when tracking your inventories in QuickBooks:

I'm also jumping in on this conversation.  I did submit a product suggestion, but I do so very regularly and not one of my suggestions has been taken.  In short, I wouldn't hold your breath for them to actually listen to real users and make changes based on what people actually need.

Hoping to bump this suggestion back up to the top - looks like people have been asking for years for this to be done.  It's June 2022 and we are still waiting.

Hello, bethanne68.

I understand how important it is for your company to have the option to hide or remove past bin locations in QuickBooks Desktop. As far as I know, there isn't any update on when this be added.

Our engineers are constantly improving our software, and we have a corresponding team that collects all user requests. It's possible the required number of requests to include this option hasn't met yet. I encourage you to submit your product suggestion to have this functionality in the future.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Help menu.
  2. Select Send Feedback Online.
  3. Click Product Suggestion.
  4. Enter your request.
  5. Once done, hit Send Feedback.

I'm also added this article for future reference if you want to adjust your inventory: Adjust your inventory quantity or value in QuickBooks Desktop.

You're always welcome to post again if you have other QuickBooks concerns. We're here to help you out.

This needs to be addressed! When using build assemblies, having multiple bin locations on an individual item prevents the bin location from being auto-filled. This forces the user to manually select each item bin location that this affects. It's time consuming and annoying. We need the ability to remove empty or past bin locations from individual items.

Hello there, @PRIShane,

I recognize that deleting this bin location is beneficial for your business. I'm here to provide more information on how to remove this option.

Once the inventory site is linked to this transaction, we cannot clear this option. We can send feedback to our product development to enhance your experience.

Here's how:

  1. Navigate to the Help menu.
  2. Choose Send Feedback Online.
  3. Please select Product Suggestion.
  4. Enter your request here.
  5. When finished, click Send Feedback.

I also recommend reading this article to learn more about how the program's Advanced Inventory feature works: Set up Advanced Inventory.

Moreover, if you want to adjust your inventory, I've added this article for future reference: Adjust your inventory quantity or value in QuickBooks Desktop.

You are always welcome to re-post if you have further concerns with inventory items in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). We're here to assist you.

@ChristineJoieR

An alternative solution would be to allow us to assign a "default" bin location that will autofill when creating build assemblies.

We are on year 5 of this being an issue. How many requests does this need to be addressed?

This is a nightmare when using the Warehouse manager app. If I do a cycle count it adds the item and all bin locations old and new. so a cycle list of 10 items ends up have 20 or more lines because it wants you to count old locations even if its zero and the default location has changed.  Why wouldn't it just show the current location??? Please change this!

July 24, 2024

Touching base again regarding this utter waste of time and disaster quickbook's won't seem to fix. Running cycle counts are great when 5 parts have 6 past locations. Looks really clean and organized.
