Question

How do I reopen a closed sales order in Quickbooks online?

I am just setting up my Quickbooks using the online version. I entered my sales under Sales orders instead of under Sales receipts.  But I had closed the sales orders, and it won't let me reopen them now.

How do I reopen them so that I can cancel the sales orders?  Is there a way to delete them once they are closed? Or is there a way to move the data to Sales receipts from the sales orders?

Thank you, DebraT

Once a sales order is marked as closed, it cannot be reopen directly, DebraT. Allow me to discuss the details of your concern today.

QuickBooks Online (QBO) does not have the option to reopen a closed sales order once it has been marked as closed. This applies only to open sales orders that are not fulfilled, have been invoiced, and have not yet been paid. Additionally, if the accounting period is closed and no invoice has been created, the sales order can still be edited. You can easily create a new sales order whenever you need to.

If you need more detailed information about reopening a closed sales order and the steps on how to create a new one, please refer to this article: Create and manage sales orders in QuickBooks Online.

The feature to automatically transfer data in QBO is currently not available between sales orders and sales receipts. Therefore, you can manually replicate the sales order to a sales receipt.

If you have multiple sales orders to convert, consider using the CSV import feature available in QBO for batch transactions, which can streamline the process for a larger number of receipts. Please check out this article for the step-by-step guide on importing a sales receipt using a CSV: How to import sales receipts.
