Question

How do I send 1099s via email to recipients? I see that they are mailed, but I don't see that they were also made available electronically. Is there a delay?

Let me share information about your 1099s, @annette.dentel.

All 1099 forms are mailed by January 31 to the residential address in the contractor's profile. If the contractor hasn't received their 1099 form within 7 business days after January 31, customers may print the recipient copies from within their account.

Please note that when you invite a contractor to enter their W9 information, they can create a QuickBooks Self-Employed account for free. This way, they can securely share their tax information with you and view the 1099 form after you've filed it. For more details, open this link: Learn how your contractors can add their own 1099 tax info.

Also, In QBO, you can check the 1099 status under the Filing status to see if the IRS accepted it. The 1099 status might be one of the following:

  • Not Submitted: You haven't e-filed the forms with the IRS. Thus, you can keep revising it as needed.
  • Submitted: You have e-filed the form to the IRS. It will also show as Sent on your screen. If you need to revise it, file a manual amendment.
  • Received by IRS: The IRS has received your form. They could be currently processing it or have already approved it. You'll receive an email confirmation approximately a week after the IRS accepts and confirms submissions.

On the other hand, you can scan this article for important dates when filing forms in QuickBooks and how to print your 1099 forms:
