Question

How do I skip a recurring transaction?

I have recurring transaction reminders for monthly bills. Searches indicate a skip option in the dropdown menu next to the individual reminders. The skip option is not in my menu. Is there a setting for this? How do I skip reminders to the next billing cycle?

I've got the steps to help you skip reminders for your recurring transactions, Race.

We can complete this process by navigating to the Recurring transactions page and selecting the Edit dropdown list. I'll add an image for visual reference.

However, if it's still not showing, I recommend we perform some basic troubleshooting steps to determine if this is a browser-related issue. We can open your QBO account on an incognito window.

You can refer to the following keyboard shortcuts based on your browser type:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Shift + N

If the private browsing session is successful, delete the browser's cache to restart the system. This can be done in other supported and up-to-date browsers. Clearing the cache will reset the system, allowing you to start with a clean slate.

Moreover, I'll add this guide to learn how to get a list of all your recurring transactions and the accounts they're linked to: Review your recurring transactions in QuickBooks Online

The Community space is available 24/7 to handle any recurring transactions-related concerns. Keep safe always!

The payment was a few days past due and the skip option was not listed. I edited the category for the transaction and this skipped the transaction forward, even though that was not my intent in simply editing a category. The transaction (now scheduled for the future) is displaying the skip option in the menu. Can overdue transactions not be skipped? or this is a bug in Quickbooks?

I appreciate you reaching back and providing additional details, @Race-MX.

In QuickBooks Online, you typically cannot skip overdue recurring transactions. However, you can modify or delete them to prevent them from being processed further.

To learn more about this feature, you can read through the following articles below. These will provide you with details about how to use the template before its scheduled date as well as handling tax code:

If I can be of additional assistance, please let me know. I'd be more than willing to lend you a hand.
