For 2023 1099-NEC or 1099-MISC forms: If you e-file your 1099-NEC or 1099-MISC with us, beginning in 2024, you can submit amended 1099 forms through QuickBooks Online. Check back later for instructions. I'm checking back for assistance.

Let me help you with filing the amended 1099 forms in QuickBooks Online (QBO), stevesimons.

If you e-file your 1099-NEC or 1099-MISC with us (beginning in 2024), you can submit amended 1099 forms through QuickBooks Online. However, we don't have official instructions yet. Once the procedures are established, you can contact with our Payroll Support Team for further guidance. Here's how:

  1. Go to Help.
  2. Select Search.
  3. Click Contact Us.
  4. Enter your concern in the What can we help you with? text area.
  5. Select Continue.
  6. Click Chat with us or Have us call you.

I want to include that reaching out to our Customer Care Support is best during business hours from 6 AM-6 PM PT Mondays-Fridays. Use this article to learn more: QuickBooks Online Payroll Support.

For all other years, you'll need to work directly with the IRS to make a manual amendment to your 1099 forms. Use these IRS instructions to do so. Once corrected you will need to provide the corrected return to the recipient or contractor yourself. Here's how to file the amended form:

  1. Order 1099-NEC IRS forms online at IRS Online Ordering for Information Returns and Employer Returns or over the phone at 800-829-3676.
  2. Fill out the 1099-NEC form and be sure to select the Corrected checkbox.
  3. Once done, mail the form to the IRS.
  4. After that, mail the recipient copy to your contractor as soon as possible so that they can file their taxes.

Please refer to the IRS General Instructions for Certain Information Returns for the information that you'll need to prepare. Additionally, you can visit this link for more details about this process: How to correct or change 1099s in QuickBooks.

On the other hand, I'd like to let you know that based on the IRS's most recent publication on Form 1096, those who file their 1099-MISC forms electronically (such as with Intuit's E-file service) do not need to submit a 1096. For your reference, you can also check out this article for more information: E-file through the 1099 E-File Service.

Please keep in touch with me here should you have any additional questions, I want to ensure your success. Take care!
