how to change pay period on Intuit Online Payroll

If you're using the Intuit Online Payroll Full Services subscription, you need to get in touch with our Payroll Support Team. All changes to your account need to be documented since Intuit pays and files the taxes for you. Use this article as a guide on how to reach out to them: Contact Payroll Support. 

If you have Intuit Online Payroll Enhanced, you can change the schedule without notifying us. Here's how: 

First, create a new pay schedule

1. Go to Setup and select Pay Schedules.
2. In Pay Schedules section, select Create.
3. Select a Pay Period and Pay Date.
4. Select OK.

Second, assign the employee to the new pay schedule

1. Go to Employees and select the employee’s Pay Schedule.
2. Select the How often do you pay (employee)? ▼ dropdown. Then select the pay schedule that the employee will use moving forward.
3. Select OK.

Lastly, delete the old pay schedule. Make sure you don't have any employees assigned to it so you can remove old one. 

1. Go to Setup and select Pay Schedules.
2. Select Edit next to the Pay schedule you want to update or delete.
3. Update the pay schedule’s info, then select OK or select Delete to remove the pay schedule.

Also, QuickBooks follows cash accounting for payroll reports. This means that taxes and payroll expenses are reported on the pay date, regardless of the work period. Check out these articles for more details:
