Question

How to create a reoccurring invoice from an old invoice, without reentering in all the data?

In previous versions of quickbooks I could go to a previous created and sent invoice and turn it into a reoccurring invoice without much work.  A small box would pop up and I would indicated the frequency, next bill date, etc.  Now it seems that when I try to make a previously created invoice reoccurring, I am having to reenter all of the sales and product data; essentially I am having to rewrite the entire invoice on a template.  Some of our invoice are very detailed and this is very time consuming.  Is there a work around?

I understand how the feature saves time. Let me provide some information about recurring invoices to guide you on what you can do, Herrera.

If you're trying to create a recurring invoice using an old layout from an old invoice, you can create by clicking the Make recurring option. I've added a screenshot for reference:

The information automatically populates the invoice form:

However, if you're unable to do that, it's possible this is a browser-related issues. Let's perform some troubleshooting steps to fix the problem. You can log in using a private window. Use the shortcut keys below:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Shift + N
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P

When using incognito mode, this deletes cookies and browser history leaving your browser clean and easy to access any websites and error-free. Once done, double-check if you can already create a recurring invoice from an the old one. If it works, then go back to the main browser to clear its cache and delete some outdated files that might be the cause of the error. Otherwise, use a supported, up-to-date browser.

However, if you're using the new invoice layout, you'll have to re-enter the information manually since it doesn't populate the invoice information automatically when you create a recurring transactions.

Furthermore, QuickBooks provides a variety of reports that caters to your business needs. You'll only have to customize them to make sure it show the right information and the data your business needs. I've got this article for you: Customize Reports In QuickBooks Online.
