I bought a new computer. How do I transfer my QuickBooks 2016 to my new computer?

I just bought a new MacBook Pro. My Quick Book file will dot transfer to my new computer. When I open it on my new computer I am told I have 13 sessions left to register the trial program. I open quickbooks and it is not my data, it is the trial data. They want my registration number from 2016, and I can't find it.

When installing QuickBooks Desktop on your new MacBook Pro, you still need to activate the software. Please make sure to enter the same information you provided at the time of the purchase (the information from the QuickBooks installed on your old computer).

Sign into your account on the new computer. The link is below. Youll need the License and product number, I have the 2016 desktop version and read online i was doomed if i bought a new computer. When you sign into your account (the link is below) youre able to download your version straight to your computer.

On the original computer, choose QuickBooks->About QuickBooks menu. In the window that comes up you'l see your license number and product number. Write those down as you need them to register the copy on the new computer.

Also make sure you copy your company file over to the new computer. By default its in the Documents folder. But you can see where it is by typing Help->Product Information. On the bottom of that window will be the path in the file system to your company file. That's the file you want to transfer over to the new computer. Put it in the Documents folder on the new computer.

On the new computer launch QuickBooks. Register it using the license number and product number you got above. You may also need your phone number and zip code. Then choose File->Open, navigate to Documents, and open your company file.

If you've been using the Attachments feature you'll need to transfer over the Attachments folder as well. By default its also in the Documents folder.

I work from home now full time. We only have Desktop version at the office for QuickBooks. I would like to have the Desktop version on my home computer and be able to pay bills and do payroll. Can I transfer the old QuickBooks from the office computer using the steps as if I bought a new computer? I have the license and product number. I would also transfer the company file over via the Documents folder? Is this correct? Thanks

I hope all is well. You're correct about transferring the old QuickBooks from the office to your computer at home. You'll need to install QuickBooks Desktop on your home computer, and I'll provide the steps below on how:

First, make sure your computer meets the system requirements.
Next, download your version of QuickBooks Desktop and save the file somewhere you can easily find it.
Have the product and license number handy, and then open the file you downloaded (QuickBooks.exe).
Follow the onscreen instructions, then accept the software license agreement. Press Next.
Then, enter the product and license number, push Next.
Choose between an Express install or a Custom and Network install.
Finally, you'll need to Active QuickBooks Desktop.

If you're using QuickBooks Desktop for Windows, let's make sure we have the most recent backup copy of the company file. Once done, we can download the software on your new computer.

Here's how:

Go to the Downloads & Updates page to get the download link.
Enter your Country, Product, and Version.
Click the Search button.
Select the Download button.

Then, proceed with the installation process on the program. For the steps and details, check out this article: Installing QuickBooks Desktop.

On the other hand, you can use the Migrator Tool to move QuickBooks Desktop and up to three company files to another computer. This can be done if you’re using a US version of QuickBooks Desktop 2018 or newer as a single user.

Once QuickBooks is installed, you can now restore the backup copy of the company file from the old location to the new one. To help you move your company files to another computer, refer to this article: Move your company files to another computer.

Let's troubleshoot the issue so you can open the company file on another laptop, Amirjoon.

The File won't transfer in QuickBooks Desktop can be fixed by downloading the QuickBooks Tool Hub. This tool is designed to automatically diagnose and fix common issues within the software. You can run this tool first to see if it fixes all of the errors, and proceed to the additional solutions if the same thing happens.

Below are the instructions on how to do it:

Download the most recent version of the QuickBooks Tool Hub. Save the file somewhere you can easily find it.
Open the file you downloaded (QuickBooksToolHub.exe).
Follow the on-screen steps to install and agree to the terms and conditions.
When the install finishes, double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the tool hub.
Once the QuickBooks Tool Hub is open, select Program Problems.
Select Quick Fix my Program.
Start QuickBooks Desktop and open your data file.

To make sure the software is properly updated, please restart the computer after running the tool.

Hello, @kirkowens! Hope your week is going great so far. :) I can definitely walk you through the process of moving your QuickBooks Desktop to another computer. All you need is a flash drive or some kind of external device. Here are the steps:

Before you start, make sure you install QuickBooks Desktop on the new computer.
Follow the steps to create a backup company file on your original computer.
When you save the backup file, give it a unique name so it's easy to identify. This also prevents accidental overwrites.
Save the backup file somewhere you can easily find it, like on your desktop.
Using a flash drive or another external device, move the backup company file to your new computer.
Follow the steps to restore the backup on your new computer (should be easy to find if you saved it on your desktop).
If you use payroll, download the latest tax table after you move your file.

How do I transfer my Quick books to a new computer?

If you are using a US version of QuickBooks Desktop 2018 or newer, you can use the QuickBooks Migration Tool to move your data to another computer. Let me show how:

First, you need to have your new computer connected to the internet. You also need to use a USB flash drive with enough free space to hold your QuickBooks files.

Additionally, the Migrator Tool will tell you how much free space you need. Most people need between 150 and 250 MB.

Here's how to set up and use the Migrator Tool:

Step 1: On the old computer

From QuickBooks, go to the File menu, select Utilities.
Click Move QuickBooks to another computer.
Select I'm Ready, then create a one-time password.
Follow the instructions to choose the USB flash drive you’ll use. Then wait for the files to be copied.

Step 2: On the new computer

Insert the USB flash drive. Due to Windows security restrictions, the Migrator Tool won’t automatically open.
Open the flash drive to view its files and double-click the file Move_QuickBooks.bat to start the migrator.
Enter the password you created, then select Let's go.
Wait for the Migrator Tool to finish. Please know that this will depend on the speed of your computer and internet, and the size of your company file(s).

In case, the migrator doesn’t open after selecting and running the file, you may need to update your version of Windows 10.

Once done, the migrator tool automatically removes your QuickBooks files from your USB flash drive. Your QuickBooks files will still be on your old computer. We strongly recommend you change the name of the file(s) on the old computer to avoid using the wrong file.

How do I get QB to recognize me as primary. I have sent in scans of drivers license and secretary of state reports, but no response
