Question

I did not get a notice from QB of rejected 1099s until February 1, 2024. Fixed it yesterday. Are we in trouble with the IRS?

Let me route you in the right direction concerning 1099s filing in QuickBooks Online (QBO), @msalogga.

If you’re concerned about being penalized for filing on February 1, 2024. It would be best to directly contact the IRS to assess you with the following. Although, QuickBooks allowed customers to e-file until April 30. It’s still best to reach out to them to verify.

Furthermore, you can view all forms you previously filed within QBO. They are available to view or print approximately 35 days after the end of the quarter. Check out this article for complete details: View your previously filed tax forms and payments.

If you have any further inquiries about the procedures of QuickBooks Online, feel free to ask. I will provide you with the necessary information upon your reply.

Hi RoseJillB,

So, more specifically, I filed my 1099s on January 19th on QBO but did not get a notification of IRS acceptance/rejection until February 1st.  Why did QBO not submit my filing until 2/1?  Like I said after talking to QB Support I was able to get it fixed and the IRS accepted the third submittal yesterday.  I'm more than a little surprised that QB apparently held my 1099s until 2/1 AFTER the deadline for 1099-NEC forms.

Thank you for a more detailed response.

I spoke to QBs online yesterday and most if not all of our mailouts went out AFTER the January 31st deadline.  They informed me that this was a third party that they were dealing with and that QBs would be handling all fines related to this issue.  I called QB several times regarding this and was not told of the issue until yesterday.  They should have informed users and been ahead of this issue.
