Question

I had a 1099 returned because of a bad address. The vendor address on file is not how the 1099 was filed. Can I correct it?

I can help you correct 1099, jbeck.

In QuickBooks Online (QBO), we can void the returned 1099 and file it again with the correct address.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Taxes menu.
  2. Select 1099 filings.
  3. From the 1099 filings tab, select Void forms.

After that, update the address. Then, file the 1099 forms again. Check this link for details and instructions under Steps 3 and 4Fix rejected 1099 forms.

Additionally, I've included this article to help answer the most commonly asked questions about 1099s in QuickBooks: Get answers to your 1099 questions.

Furthermore, you may want to print your 1099 forms in QBO to get a physical copy for record-keeping.

Let me know if you need additional guidance in voiding your 1099 filing in QuickBooks. We'll be more than glad to offer assistance. Take care.

The 1099 was already accepted from the IRS. The issue is that the address is correct in the vendor file, and it was when these were entered however the address printed without the street and city. I know this because I received the form from the post office with insufficient address.

Thanks for getting back here in the Community, jbeck.

I'll provide some insights about the returned 1099 form in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Since the IRS already accepted the form, there is no need to file an amendment. This means that you don't have to file a correction to a previous 1099. Instead, you may consider sending the form to your contractor via mail.
