Question

I have contractors that I pay more than the $600 per year and have on in the past paid a 1099. They show up in Review list but not anywhere else. How to complete a 1099?

Contractors show up on the "Review your contactors' info" but when I click NEXT only one shows up even though the others qualify. When I go to add them from 1099 contractors that do not meet the criteria or Contractors not marked for a 1099, they don't show up. Therefore I cannot create a 1099 without doing some more manual stuff. Help?

Thanks for dropping by here today, @rMooch.

Let me help you ensure you're paying contractors from the appropriate expense account so they'll show up in your 1099s in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

When creating 1099s, QBO uses the accounts you mapped to report 1099 transactions. If your amounts are incorrect, you'll have to review the contractor payment transactions and their associated accounts.

To do that:

  1. Go to Reports and enter Transaction List by Vendor in the search bar.
  2. Click Customize.
  3. Set the reporting period to Last Year (or Last Calendar Year).
  4. In the Rows/Columns section, click Change columns and check the box for Split.
  5. In the Filter section, check the Vendor box, then choose the 1099 vendors in question.
  6. Click Run report.

Look under the Splits column for what accounts the vendor's transactions were affiliated with. If you see the word "SPLIT," click the transaction to view the details on which accounts are affected. If it's a bill payment, access the bill to see what expense accounts were affected.

For further information, please visit this link: Fix missing contractors or wrong amounts on 1099s.

Once resolved, you can continue by e-filing your 1099s in QBO. You can refer to the instructions in Step 4 provided in this article: Create and file 1099s with QuickBooks Online.
