Question

I just filed a 1099 for a contractor, but used an outdated address and need to correct and resend it. But the status says the 1099 was accepted. How do I void it?

Specifically, the instructions I have found for how to send corrected 1099s say to start by checking which 1099s were rejected, then void them, then to proceed with the correction and resending.  What do I do if the address was incorrect but it says the 1099 was accepted and there is no option to void?

Welcome to the Community, @canardschantants. I wish you didn’t go through this hurdle with your 1099 forms in QuickBooks Online (QBO). Allow me to share details on correcting this.

The instructions you've shared are applicable if the status of your filed 1099s is rejected. Since it's still in the accepted status, you can file an amended 1099 form through QBO. But, this will be available sometime after January 2024.

Moreover, you can work directly with the IRS for a manual amendment of your 1099 by following the IRS instructions. Once amended, provide the corrected return to the recipient or contractor.

If you need to see other related information about 1099 and be updated with this form, you can read this article: Get answers to your 1099 questions.

Additionally, you can also run a 1099 report to get an overview of the payments you've made to your contractors.

I'll be here to help you whenever you need assistance with your tax forms. Take care!
