Question

I just filed my company's 1099 forms electronically through QB Online - is that all I need to do? Do I need to file a 1096 form?

Warm greetings, Debbie. Let me share whether you need to file 1096 in QuickBooks Online.

QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Contractor Payments don't provide Form 1096. This document summarizes the payments you made to your independent contractors.

Moreover, when filing 1099 forms electronically through QuickBooks Online, you do not need to file a 1096 form. However, I'd still recommend contacting the IRS for further details.

Additionally, you can visit this article for more information: Form 1096

Besides, you can read the year-end checklist to wrap up this year's payroll. It includes essential tasks such as processing employee bonuses, preparing W-2 and 1099 forms, and verifying year-to-date totals for each employee.

I'm always here to support you whenever you need information and assistance concerning 1099 and 1096. Click the reply button below, and I'll answer your queries. Best wishes!

Good evening, @sheilacyr

Thanks for chiming in on this thread about payroll forms.

Do you mean, "What's the difference between 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC?" If so, here's some information below:

1099-MISC: Reporting specific types of payments besides wages

1099-NEC: Reporting nonemployee compensation

Review this guide for more details on both forms: 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC.

If you're still referring to a 1096 form, please look over this IRS link

I hope this helps. Feel free to reach back out. Have a wonderful day!
