Question

I just submitted the 1099's and discovered I missed one. Still showing as pending in QB. Is there a way to cancel what I submitted and re-do the 1099's?

Thanks for posting here in the forum. I see you want to cancel and redo your submitted 1099 form in QuickBooks Online. Let me share insight and guidelines to help you achieve your goal.

In QuickBooks Online, you can view the status of your e-filed 1099 in the Filing status tab. It can either be one of the following:

  • Not Submitted: You haven't e-filed the forms with the IRS. Thus, you can keep revising it as needed.
  • Submitted: You have e-filed the form to the IRS. It can also be marked as Sent on your screen. If you need to modify it, you can file a manual amendment.
  • Received by IRS: The IRS has received your form. They could be currently processing it or have already approved it. You'll receive an email confirmation approximately a week after the IRS accepts and confirms submissions.

You can wait for the IRS to receive your form since you've already e-filed and submitted your 1099 to the IRS. On the other hand, If you need to make updates or corrections, you can do it through a printed copy and send it manually by mail to the IRS. Below are the steps to follow for filing the amended form:

  1. Order 1099-NEC IRS forms online at IRS Online Ordering for Information Returns and Employer Returns.
  2. Fill out the 1099-NEC form and enter the correct Social Security Number.
  3. Tick the Corrected box.
  4. Once done, mail the form to the IRS.
