Question

I only have 2 1099's to print manually. There is a sentence at the top of the page that says "The IRS requires that a minimum of 10 forms are printed and mailed."Why?

Hello there,

I'm here to answer your question about 1099.

From the tax year 2023 onwards, if you have a total of 10 or more combined 1099s, W-2s, or other federal forms that require filing, it must be filed electronically. For more information about this, you can see IRS and Treasury issue final regulations on e-file for businesses.

In your case, you still have the option to print manually the two 1099s if you didn't e-file your 1099s with Intuit. You can purchase your 1099 Kit by mid-January so you can print it. Then, follow these steps:

  1. In the left menu, click Payroll.
  2. Choose Contractors.
  3. Select Prepare 1099s to create your 1099s.
  4. When complete, choose the Print and mail instead option.
  5. Follow the on-screen steps to check your alignment and print your forms.

To help you prepare and file your Federal 1099s, here's a great article you can check for guidance: Create and file 1099s with QuickBooks Online.
