Question

I used to be given a choice but now I don't have a choice

I am at a worksite and am using the app on a phone. I am creating an invoice. I have to add a part to "Products and Services." I used to be given the option to select an income account for the part--Purchases-COS--but now it assigns the category as Sales.

 

I used to be able to add a service for my labor and assign the income account as Service Income, but now it doesn't give an option, it just chooses Sales. 

 

Now when I get home I have go in and fix it all, changing the income account for anything I added that day.

 

Is there a way to make new service products go to Service Income and new part products go to Purchases-COS?

I understand the importance of having the flexibility to assign income accounts for your products and services. Rest assured, I'm here to help you address this issue and find a solution that works for you.

 

Typically, you should have the ability to alter the category. Since it currently doesn't have an option to modify it, we can take troubleshooting steps to rectify this.

 

Here's how: 

 

  1. Change the Wifi data connection on your device to 4G (varies by device).
  2. Close and restart the app.
  3. Clear app data. To do this:
    1. Open your device Settings.
    2. Select Apps (varies by device).
    3. Choose the QuickBooks app from the list, then select Storage.
    4. Choose Clear Data.
  4. Power down and restart your device.
  5. Uninstall and reinstall the app.

 

Then, let's ensure that your app is updated. 

 

In the meantime, you can log in to your QuickBooks Online account using a web browser. From there, let's edit the category you prefer. For more details, please check out this article: Add product and service items to QuickBooks Online.

 

Once done, proceed to create the invoice. Then, you can make swift changes to invoice templates while you are on the move.

I discovered something which is workaround, but I'll call it a hassle workaround because if QBO was designed better, I wouldn't be going through this hassle to achieve an end that used to be so easy before current updates. 

 

Anyhow, the workaround is that there are [at least] two ways to add a product when on a mobile device on the app: 1. Within an invoice. 2. By clicking on the plus sign (+) within the Products & Services topic on the main menu. The former does not give an option to choose an income account, while the latter does give an option to choose an income account. 

 

So, if I am in an invoice and need to add a product, I will exit the invoice, go to Products & Services, add the product, go back to invoices and start all over.
