Question

I've sent out a 1099 on QB but need to change the name of the recipient but it's not letting me change it and resend it. How could I do this?

I'm here to help you change the recipient's name of your 1099, Preston.

If you e-file your 1099-NEC or 1099-MISC with us beginning in 2024, that is for the year 2023 for your 1099 payroll forms, you can already submit amended 1099 forms through QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Contractor Payments, or QuickBooks Payroll. We'll be updating you when it's time to submit the amendment so we can give instructions.

For other years starting 2022 below, you'll have to work directly with the IRS to make manual amendments. You can use these IRS instructions to do so. Once corrected you will need to provide the corrected return to the recipient or contractor yourself.

However, if your form was rejected by the IRS, let's take a look at what causes the problem. I've added the steps below:

  1. Go to the 1099 filings tab
    • QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Online Payroll: Go to Taxes, then 1099 filings.
    • QuickBooks Contractor Payments only: Go to 1099 filings.
  2. Look for the alert ‌on the page. It'll indicate why the IRS rejected your 1099-NEC or 1099-MISC filings.

After you've already determined the cause of the issue, you can void your 1099 forms so you can proceed to correct the information. For more details on the process, consider checking out this article for reference: Fixed Rejected 1099 Forms.

Additionally, QuickBooks Online (QBO) offers a variety of reports that cater to your business needs. To know more about this, read this article for more information: Run Payroll Reports.

Swing by here if you have other questions or concerns about preparing and filling your tax forms using QuickBooks. I'm just a few posts away if you need help.
