I Was Forced to Upgrade to the $150/month Pro or Pro Trial Version of QBO!

I have two hours to get my work done today. I log in and am met with a pop-up that says we have been selected to try the new QBO Pro. I am used to these kinds of pop-ups and am looking for the "Dismiss" button. But, my two options are "Upgrade Now" or "Start 3-Month Trial Upgrade." I am just furious. I get on a chat window and a phone call to see how to dismiss this pop-up so I can get my work done. The chat window has me clearing caches and opening logins in different browsers. Nothing works--everything goes back to the ad. On the phone, the rep explains to me there is absolutely NO WAY to bypass the screen, but she will assist me in upgrading and then immediately downgrading to my current plan. I express concern that I will have data problems and that I will be charged for something on the card they have on file. She assures me neither of those things will happen. She also said we were selected because our list of accounts is at 180 and the max for our current plan is 250. It is upsetting to see them putting arbitrary caps on Online features that did not exist in the Desktop version. So, HERE'S THE PROCESS: Click the free trial button and then go to your dashboard. Enter the following URL into your browser bar:

https://c6.qbo.intuit.com/app/changeplan (you should be just changing the last word to "changeplan" Then, select your plan (mine was the already overpriced $60 plan) which she assured me matched exactly the plan I had already been on.  The first time I did it, I got a 404 error, but we started over and this time I was able to downgrade back to my normal plan.  Then, you have to click on a series of "Next" buttons as you are forced to tour the product you have no interest in. Again, this pattern of treating loyal, long-term customers more like hostages is INSANE, insulting and upsetting. My hands are actually shaking. This makes the company appear to only care about bottom line and big clients. I am a part-time bookkeeper working for a three person firm that is downsizing. I shouldn't be forced to upgrade to a $150/month plan and spend 1/2 hour figuring out what the heck is going on just to access my books. My biggest regret from the last year in my life is upgrading our company to Quickbooks Online. Thank goodness the phone rep was really professional-thank you to her for keeping her cool. I asked her to relay my concerns to whoever is making these selfish decisions. I'm sorry to all the other bookkeepers out there that had to go through this experience, too. Please, can I get some support to let corporate know that small firms have lost all faith and trust in the Quickbooks company?

Fortunately, I'm a small bistro and I guess I will look into purchasing an alternative online accounting package. Too bad greed is the primary motivator for software moguls. I've been a loyal QuickBooks Customer since the 1990s. Thought this will be painstakingly timely, and something I'd rather not do. It appears in order to find personal peace of mind I must make a personal statement to myself and move on to another accounting software... Too bad, way too bad... :(

Thank you for this! I have been so frustrated. I have fourteen clients and each subscription has done this. I have suggested and most have agreed, to change over to desktop, I have two that are giving up on QB completely. I totally supported that and will learn the program they have chosen. They are small businesses and don't need the hassle QBO had become.

Its clear Quickbooks no longer cares about its customer base. Does anyone have any recommendations on software alternatives after we get rid of Quickbooks?

@jagnelson

Do you have QB Desktop or QB Online?

If you are using QB Desktop, which year version do you run?

I was also forced to upgrade to Advanced from Plus and then have been unable to downgrade back to Plus because of a glitch on the Quickbooks end.  I've spent at least 2 hours on the phone with them inside my computer going around in circles trying to make the downgrade happen.  I was told 20,000 Plus customers were chosen by Intuit for the automatic upgrade to Advanced without choice or warning.  I find that very unethical, don't I need to agree to the terms of an upgrade before it can happen?  We were forced to "refresh" the page one day when logging in and the screen changed and that was that.  Very disappointing, we do not have the need for the upgrade.  It will change our monthly bill from $60 to $150, good for them, bad for us and for small businesses who are stretched so thin with time and money as it is.

Quickbooks (Intuit) has been pulling this kind of crap since day 1.  They "sell you a product" that is suppose to do all kinds of accounting, including Payroll.  Then they start to charge you for "upgrades", require you to subscribe to a payroll service; otherwise your payroll will no longer work.

Then after a couple of years, they announce they will "no longer support" your version, and REQUIRE an even more expensive upgrade.  Oh sure, you can get a upgrade for less; but why should you?  Your old program is working just fine.  But Intuit then starts to screw around with your software.  Either thru implanted "logic bombs" inside the software, and thru other "required updates" the software must do in order to work correctly.  Then all of a sudden, your software will no longer work.

I've had to reinstall so many times, and take backups of my database and re-create new databases from those backups; AFTER Intuit has screwed around with the program.

As of today, I can no longer use in multi-user mode.  We refused to upgrade beyond past 2018 version (I think).  WE no longer can to payroll, because the payroll updates we require will no longer work with our version.  I think the Government calls this Racketeering.  I thought that was Illegal.

Intuit must be owned by the Chinese like Hormel.  Arse holes.
