Hi there, bigwnfan.

If you have paid contractors through cash, check, or direct deposit, you must file 1099 forms with the IRS. It is important to file these forms on time to avoid penalties. If you have missed the deadline, QuickBooks allows you to submit the late 1099 form electronically until April 30th. However, if you miss this deadline as well, you must file your 1099 form manually.

To E-file your 1099, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Expenses and select Vendors.
  2. After clicking the Prepare 1099s button, proceed with Continue your 1099s.
  3. Go back to the Contractors section by clicking the Back button.
  4. Click the Add from the Vendor list button.
  5. Deselect the vendor or contractors that you don't need and select only the one with the late form.
  6. Tap Save, then continue preparing the late 1099.

Although you can submit the form electronically, the IRS will still consider it late. I suggest contacting them to determine the penalties.
