Question

If my social security is my ID, why is it represented in the 1099 in the format of a TIN, ie xx-xxxxxxx? My 1099's were rejected by the IRS. Could it be because of this?

Hi, @megrahanllc

I agree that it'd be necessary to know the exact reason for the 1099 rejection before proceeding with the correction process. I can help you by providing the possible causes for the rejection and guiding you to the appropriate support team that can assist you in identifying the exact cause of the issue.

By default, the tax ID in QuickBooks Online (QBO) is in an EIN format.

About the possible causes for the IRS to reject 1099 filings, it usually happens when the company's legal name, EIN, SSN, or the contractor's address(es) don't match IRS records. However, as to the exact reason why your 1099s were rejected, I'd recommend reviewing the alert on the 1099 filings page. It'll indicate why the IRS rejected your 1099 filing. I'd also encourage contacting IRS Support to clarify the rejected 1099s.

When you're ready to correct information in your 1099s, here's a detailed guide on voiding your forms and steps on the refiling process: Fix rejected 1099 forms.

We're always here in the Community should you need further assistance handling rejected 1099s in QBO. We'll do our best to assist. Take care.
