Iff Files not downloading

Hello All!

All of a sudden, I am having an issue when trying to import my payroll into my downloads file to then import it into QuickBooks.  I go through the steps from QuickBooks payroll (ie...I click on all of the employees and dates to export, click export, and it says the transactions were exported) but then when I go to Quickbooks (2023 Pro Plus version) and click file, utilities, import, iff files, the message box pops up that says import your iff file, so I click the blue import iff button and it goes straight to the file explorer download window.  I do not see the completed import transaction window, no error message pops up, and the import does not show up in the download file.  I have tried even clicking import it for me - I'll fix it later and still nothing downloads. - I have made sure there are no new updates in QuickBooks and have restarted my computer and still, nothing worked to fix this issue. I'm stumped!! Any suggestions???

Thanks in advance ☺

Hello there, @kim11_2. I'll share some insights about importing payroll data to QuickBooks Desktop (QBBDT).

A possible reason you're unable to get through with the process is that it's due to the number of transactions in the IFF. The more payroll data you import, the more QuickBooks will have a hard time absorbing it into the system.

To get around this, you'll want to import data in batches to avoid experiencing lag when importing files into the program. Once you've selected transactions from a specific period, you can gradually get it into your QBDT company. These are the steps:

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Go to File, then Utilities.
  3. Select Import, then Import IIF.
  4. Choose the IIF file you want to import, then select Open. Check your downloads folder to locate the .IIF file.
  5. Click OK.

For further guidelines about this, please see this page: Export your payroll data into QuickBooks.

You can also check this handy article to learn more about exporting and importing files in QBDT: Export, import, and edit IIF files.

I'll be here in the Community space if you need further assistance with this, @kim11_2. Feel free to leave a comment down below. Have a nice day!

Thanks so much for your reply   KurtKyle_M,

There really aren't a lot of transactions I am trying to export/import. There are just 6 transactions for the month of February that I am trying to export/import. There are only two employees.  In order to reconcile February, I need these to import into QuickBooks UGH! LOL!!.

Thanks for getting back here in the thread, @kim11_2.

I appreciate the additional details that you've shared about your query. Know that this isn't the experience we want you to have, and I want to ensure this gets sorted out as soon as possible.

We can use the QuickBooks File Doctor to fix issues you're experiencing while using the program. This tool helps you identify the error and then troubleshoot it so you can access the feature you're trying to use inside your company. To get you going, you'll want to download and install QuickBooks Tool Hub. These are the steps:

  1. Close QuickBooks.
  2. Download the most recent version (1.6.0.3) of the QuickBooks Tool Hub. Save the file somewhere you can easily find it (like your Downloads folder or your Windows desktop). Note: If you've installed Tool Hub before, you can find out which version you have. Select the Home tab. The version will be on the bottom.
  3. Open the file you downloaded (QuickBooksToolHub.exe).
  4. Follow the on-screen steps to install and agree to the terms and conditions.
  5. When the install finishes, double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the tool hub.

In case you can't find the icon, do a search in Windows for QuickBooks Tool Hub and then click the program.

For further guidelines about the process, please see this page: Fix company file and network issues with QuickBooks File Doctor.

To add up, I've got you this article to learn more about reconciling an account in QBDT: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Desktop.

@kim11_2, feel free to let me know how it goes. I'm determined to help you in sorting this out as soon as possible. Take care!
