IIF Import Error QB Desktop Pro 2020

We just updated from 2017 to 2020 QB Desktop Pro. My first IIF upload was unsuccessful. This is the error: QB Error 15101 QNTY is not a valid column for record CHECK.

How do I fix it? The QNTY column has never been an issue before.

Afternoon, Deb24442!

Glad to have you as a member of the QuickBooks Community. You've come to the right place for help. With QuickBooks Pro 2020, importing lists and transactions is convenient and accurate with the Import IIF Tool. Sounds like you may have a minor error in the correct IIF format of your document.

We have a great guide you can view here: IIF Overview

We even have a kit with a formatted document you can input the data on and upload after. To upload an IIF file follow the steps below.

  1. Switch to Single- User Mode
  2. Go the File menu and select Utilities.
  3. Select Import then click Import IIF Files.
  4. Locate the file.
  5. Click Import it for me. I'll fix it later.
  6. Select OK

Once the file is imported you'll see the number of lists and transactions imported. If you have any questions about importing in QuickBooks or have any questions at all. You can reach me at any time by replying below. I look forward to hearing how these steps worked for you. Have a great day!

I have followed all of these steps when trying to import my .iif files into QB 2020..

I do not get a prompt to fix items later. when I click on review them now...I get a box that pops up that says to use the QB launcher app. I get the error attached. If I select open in folder..I get the same error. The file with all the error reports keep duplicating in my downloads file. They are all .iif files. Not sure how to proceed and I need help!

Hello, DN76.

I'm happy to assist you this afternoon. To successfully import your .IIF files, you;ll want to download the sample .IIF file in the article I'm including below and check to make sure your format is correct as the file name corresponds with the transaction type you're importing.

If you're still running into trouble, I'd recommend reaching out to our support team. They will be able to dive into your account with you and see exactly where the hitch is.

If you have any other questions, feel free to post below. Thank you and have a nice afternoon.

Hello I just upgraded to QB desktop 2020. I used to be able to create journal entries in excel and save as csc. I used to change the extension to iif and I could upload. I can no longer do this. How do I get my excel entries into QB desktop 2020?

Welcome to the Community, @jacobsn66.

I'd be delighted to share with you a link that was already given by MaulikH about IIF Overview: import kit, sample files, and headers. Please review the article before using this guide: journal.iif.

This way, you can upload your excel entries to QuickBooks Desktop 2020 seamlessly by following the steps above.

For more details in importing and exporting IIF files, you can refer to this article: Export, import, and edit IIF files.

Additionally, reference this article if you need guidance in importing and exporting data in QuickBooks Desktop: Import and export data in QuickBooks Desktop.

You can always leave a message if you have more questions. I'll keep my notifications. Cheers!

I am having a similar problem. Just updated Quickbooks Desktop from 2018 to 2021. Now I can't import IIF files that worked fine before installing the new version.

I opened the files in Excel and don't see anything amiss.

Hello, kemjdm.

Reviewing the Excel file's format is one way to check for any issues. I'll lay down other fixes to help you import your IIF file.

Have you tried doing the steps above? If not, they're a good way to resolve the IIF import issues.

The first thing you'll want to do is to check to see if this is caused by a damaged component within the installation. The QuickBooks Tool Hub can be a great help to resolve the QNTY issue.

Follow the steps from this article to get started: Fix common problems and errors with the QuickBooks Desktop Tool Hub

Another thing to do is to use the alternative import process. This can be accessed the same way when you import the file. Here's how to do it:

  1. Go to File, then hover on Utilities.
  2. Select Imports.
  3. Choose IIF file
  4. On the pop-up, click the Import it for me I'll fix it later link.

If you still encounter the same error message, you'll want to contact our QuickBooks Desktop support. They'll check on your file and installation and resolve the issue for you. Here's how to reach them:

  1. On QuickBooks Desktop, press the F1 key to open the Help menu.
  2. Click the Contact Us button.
  3. Enter something like "QB Error 15101 QNTY" or any other error messages you encountered.
  4. Proceed with Let's talk.
  5. Select either Start a chat or Get a call

After resolving the issue, you can start working on the imported data. If you need help, feel free to check our guides here: QuickBooks Desktop articles list page

You're more than welcome to ask any other questions about importing your data into QuickBooks Desktop. Do you have other concerns? Let me know and I'll help you out.
