Question

Importing ebay fees data no splitting out shipping expense

I use Quickbooks import feature to bring in my sales and expense data from ebay.  I have done this for some time and it mostly works perfect.  The one thing that doesn't quite work properly is how the ebay fees are imported.  It will show both the "final value fees" and "shipping costs" as ebay fees.  It does actually split out the advertising expenses as ebay fees advertising.  Is there a way that the shipping expense can be dropped into a shipping expense account instead of being show as an ebay fee?  My fix up to this point is going through my fees to find what I believe are shipping expenses and changing the account to shipping fees.  Not overly complicated but does consume time.  Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Yes, you can set up bank rules to automatically post those transactions to the shipping expense account when importing in QuickBooks Online (QBO), Rick. I'm here to share some steps to ensure the names of your transactions will be categorized correctly.

Downloading transactions from your bank requires categorization to appropriate accounts and bank rules speed up this review process by creating automated rules. To do this, here's how:

1. Click the Gear icon. Then, select Rules.

2. Choose a New rule.

3. Enter a name in the What do you want to call this rule? field.

4. From the Apply this to transactions that are ▼ dropdown, select Money in.

5. From the in ▼ dropdown, choose your specific bank account.

6. Set the rule conditions. Create a rule with a maximum of five conditions by selecting +Add a condition.

7. In the Conditions fields, determine if the rule should apply to DescriptionBank text, or Amount. Then, choose ContainsDoesn't contain, or Is exactly to define how QuickBooks will implement the rule.

8. Configure the rule settings by selecting the Transaction typeCategoryTags, and  Payee. Click Save to apply the rule.
