Question

In quickbooks desktop, your healthcare and 401k deductions, it showed up in the liability area so you could just click it and print the check. How do you do that online

On the online system, it doesn't seem to have the option.  I have taken it out of the check, but do not see where I can pay the company that it should go to.

It's wonderful to see you here, @hlfp908019. Let me discuss how QuickBooks handles healthcare and 401K deductions.

The functionality in QuickBooks Desktop that displays deductions in the liability section and allows you to easily click and print is unavailable in QBO.

QuickBooks automatically calculates 401k, and transactions will show up in the Payroll Liabilities located in the Tax Payroll section to track those deductions. However, making payments to them needs to pay outside the program.

What we can do is create a check manually. Let me show you how:

  1. Select + New and choose Check.
  2. From the Bank Account dropdown, select the account you use for liability payments.
  3. In the Choose a Payee dropdown, choose the vendor.
  4. From the Account details section, select the account you use for tracking your liability payments then enter the amount.
  5. If you have sub-accounts for each agency you are paying, make sure to point to those specific accounts and enter the appropriate amount for the agency.
  6. Fill in the rest of the check as you normally would then click Save.
