Inventory

I am wanting to track inventory for our company. We purchase items from vendors and manufacture a product with these items and sell the finished product. I need to track the inventory of these items without adding them to the invoices we are sending our customers. We need to track how many of each item we are using per finished product and assign them to a customer so we can track inventory per job. Can I do that? How does the inventory adjust with the sale?

Inventory tracking features are included in all QuickBooks Desktop versions. You can run Inventory Stock Status by Item to know how many products are available for sale this includes finished goods and components that create a finished product.

 

Here's how:

 

  1. Go to the Reports menu.
  2. Choose Inventory.
  3. Select the Inventory Stock Status by Item report.
  4. Set the report date.
  5. Hit the Refresh button to keep the changes.

 

Then, run the Inventory Valuation Summary report to determine how many assembly items are currently in stock.

 

Here's how:

 

  1. Press the Reports menu at the top bar to choose Inventory and Inventory Valuation Summary.
  2. Click the Dates drop-down and set the correct period you want to see on the report.
  3. Press the Customize Report button if you wish to personalize the data.
  4. Hit the Refresh button to keep the changes.

 

On the other hand, it isn't possible to assign to customers and track the goods used for each finished product or service. I advise searching for a third-party management application that can link with your QuickBooks Desktop that has this functionality. You can find one using this link: QuickBooks Apps.

QBO doesn't offer any assembly feature. If you are running a manufacturing company or a workshop, consider having a manufacturing app to integrate with QBO.
