Trying to import inventory into POS using csv file and getting "Description 1" empty.  What field is this?  Can't find what data that field should have anyplace and it's not a field in the template.

Thanks for reaching out to the Community, @pgroves. I'll guide you to import your data into QuickBooks Point of Sale.

Before proceeding with any other tasks, be sure to create a backup company file to secure your data in case you encounter any issues.

For POS, you can only import customers, vendors, and inventory templates. To obtain an existing template or create a new one, follow these steps:

  1. Close QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale.
  2. Right-click the Windows Logo button and select File Explorer.
  3. Navigate to the following location: C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Intuit\QuickBooks Point of Sale (x.0).
  4. To explore further, select the arrow symbol next to each folder listed.
  5. Right-click QB POS Import Template.xls and click Delete, confirming the deletion.

Once you've completed the setup, we can proceed with importing your data. Here's how:

  1. Go to File > Utilities > Import.
  2. Click Next from the Data Import Wizard
  3. Choose the type of data to import, then click Next.
  4. Select the Default template for how you want to import the data and open the Import Template.
  5. If you chose to have a different file template for import:
    1. Select a Custom file, then Next.
    2. Locate your saved template. Ensure to select the correct worksheet tab and which row the data started on.
    3. To match the columns from the import template to the Point of sale fields, you may need to map the data manually. Select Choose File Mapping > Add or Select Mapping Manage Mappings.
    4. After mapping is completed, select Save.
    5. Select Next and follow the prompt to start the import.
  6. Click Next and follow the prompt.
  7. After the import wizard checks the import file, select Import.
  8. Close the wizard.
  9. Check for errors and go to File > Utilities View Data Import Log.
