Inventory tracking QB online

Hello I discontinued my QB's Commerce and are trying to turn on inventory tracking in Quickbooks Online.  I have my product settings set to on for tracking and price/rate, however it isn't active to add inventory items.  Does this have something to do with QB's Commerce that we were using causing issues?  Don't know where any other settings would be to turn on inventory tracking in QB's Online.  Any answers?  Thanks Jeremy

I'm here to shed some light on the inventory tracking function, ParsonsDev.

 

The mentioned feature is only available in QuickBooks Online (QBO) Plus and Advanced versions. If you're using QBO Simple Start or Essentials, you'll have to update your subscription. Let me walk you through the steps.

Here's how:

 

  1. Log in to your company as the primary or company admin. 
  2. Head to the Gear icon and select Account and settings.
  3. In the Billing & subscription menu on the left panel, choose your product and click the Upgrade your plan link.
  4. Review the available plans and select Choose plan.
  5. Follow the onscreen instructions to upgrade your plan.

Next, turn on your inventory tracking and add the products and services. To accomplish these tasks, follow the instructions in this guide: Add inventory products in QuickBooks Online.

Thank you for your reply.  We do have Quickbooks Plus subscription and just discontinued Quickbooks Commerce since we were told Commerce is being discontinued by Quickbooks, which is very disappointing.  I am still not seeing inventory item option to be able to choose from.  I wonder if this is because of Commerce add on and needs to be turned off.  We have the Commerce app turned off and still not able to add new products to our QB's Online.  Not sure where to turn at this point?  Thanks

You can set up inventory items in your system regardless if you've discontinued your QuickBooks Commerce account, @ParsonsDev. Let me guide you on how to do it in your QuickBooks Online (QBO) Plus subscription.

 

Before that, you need to enable the feature through the Accounts and Settings page. Make sure to open your account as an admin, then follow these steps:

 

  1.  Go to the Gear icon, then click on Account and Settings.
  2. Tap on the Sales tab.
  3. Select Edit in the Products and Services section.
  4. Turn on Show Product/Service column on sales forms.
  5. You can also turn on price rules if you want to set up flexible pricing for the things you sell.
  6. Turn on both Track quantity and price/rate and Track inventory quantity on hand.
  7. Hit Save, then Done.

 

Once done, add your products to the Products and Services window.

 

  1. Click on Products and Services from the Gear icon.
  2. Select New or Add a product or service, then Inventory.
  3. Enter the details, then Save and Close.

 

After that, you're now ready to pick the item when tracking your transactions.
