Question

Invoice with multiple shipping addresses and sales tax amount

This question could be either here since it deals with sales tax or invoices. We have two vendors that we ship product for that is being shipped to two different states. We currently use an in house program to create our invoices so that isn't an issue for the person creating the invoices. However when I have to upload the invoices into QBO, I am currently having to create a sub invoice, for example 111111-1 where as the original invoice is 111111, to cover the items being shipped to the second address along with that states' sales tax. Is there a way to have both shipping addresses on the same invoice along with the two state sales tax that each item is creating?

Thanks for getting in touch with the Community, JDedman.

I can certainly understand how an ability to include two sales taxes from different states on one invoice could be useful and have submitted a suggestion about it as of today.

You can also submit your own feature requests while signed in.

Here's how:

  1. Use the Gear icon, then go to Feedback.
  2. Enter your suggestion(s) in the Have feedback? window.
  3. If necessary, attach a file with your Camera icon.
  4. Select Next.

Your feedback's definitely valuable to Intuit. It will be reviewed by our Product Development team and considered in future updates. You can stay up-to-date with the latest news about your product by reviewing Intuit's Product Updates webpage.

As a workaround, you can create two separate invoices for the different states.

In regard to including two addresses on an invoice, you can manually enter multiple addresses in your Billing address field.

Please feel welcome to send a reply if there's any additional questions. Have a lovely Thursday!

Awesome! Thank you for the help! I do have a follow up question, if your suggestion does get implemented, how would this effect the use of the Avalara app. Or would this be a question for further down the road?

Hello, @JDedman.

It's our pleasure to hear that my colleague ZackE has addressed your concerns regarding multiple shipping addresses and sales tax on invoices.

Since QBO haven't implemented the suggestion yet, we can't provide specific details about how multiple shipping address and sales tax in an invoice would affect the Avalara app. Indeed, it would be a question for us to see in the future.

Moreover, here are some additional articles related to invoice and sales tax that you might want to check:
