Question

Invoicing for monthly A/R

How do I post A/R invoices for each of 12 coming months?

I do not want recurring entries, as these do not post to A/R until the posting date;

A/R should reflect income now to be collected in the future.

Good morning, JoeJTC, and welcome to the Community.

I'd be glad to lend a hand with monthly invoicing in QuickBooks Online.

You may be interested in what's referred to as progress (or progressive) invoices. This type of invoicing allows you to split an estimate into as many invoices as you need, without asking for the full price at the beginning of a job. You can get started by:

1. Turning on progress invoicing.

2. Create a progress invoice template.

3. Create an estimate.

4. Create progress invoices from the estimate.

5. Keep track of your progress invoices

The following article provides all of the details concerning setting up and sending progress invoices in QuickBooks Online.

If you need additional assistance please don't hesitate to reach back out in the comments below. I'll be here to help.

I've tested out the "estimated invoice" method you suggested, and it seems to work well.

However, the full amount owed does not show on the A/R report.

I would expect that the full amount to be received would be considered income at the time the A/R is generated--accrual basis accounting being used.

Suggestion short of entering the invoice portion 12 times with different monthly due dates?
