Question

IRS rejected my 2023 1099's, saying business info does not match what is on file, I've never had this happen, is it a bug in QBO?

Hello there, @mitchm2.

I'm here to lend a hand to fix your rejected 1099 forms.

There are some reasons why the rejection happens. These are:

  • The legal name, EIN, or SSN of your company does not match the records of the IRS accurately.
  • The contractor's address does not match IRS records due to incomplete ZIP code, wrong state, or non-US address.

To resolve this, you can first see what forms are rejected. Here's how:

  1. Go to Taxes, then 1099 filings.
  2. Look for the alert ‌on the page. It'll indicate why the IRS rejected your 1099-NEC or 1099-MISC filings.

Once verified that the details are correct but the forms were rejected, you can reach out to the IRS to check what business information they have in their records.

However, you can follow Steps 2-3 in this article if confirmed that the details were incorrect: Fix rejected 1099 forms. It can guide you on how to void your 1099s, update the incorrect info, and then e-file again.

If you want to print your 1099s in the future, check out this guide: Print your 1099 forms.
