This is for entering customer payments (of which I have 1000's).

Yes, it's possible to stop the automatic allocation of payments to credits in QuickBooks Online, Tamara. I'd be delighted to provide you with the steps to achieve this.

Let's ensure the Automatically apply credits feature is turned off. This way, the system won't auto-apply the credit memos as payments for open invoices.

Here are the steps to disable this feature:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and then select Account and Settings.
  2. Click the Advanced tab on the left side of the screen.
  3. In the Automation section, uncheck the box for Automatically apply credits.
  4. Hit Save, then Done to confirm the changes.

For more details, please see this article: Create and apply credit memos or delayed credits in QuickBooks Online.

Once done, start tracking payments. You can also manually select which credits you want to apply to a specific invoice.

Additionally, QuickBooks Online allows you to remind customers about invoice due dates. It'll help receive and track the payment on time.

You can always get back on this thread if you need assistance receiving payments or handling a customer credit or overpayment. My team and I are ready to help you out.
