Question

Is there a way to efile a new 1099, once I've voided one, and not have another copy mailed to the recipient?

I have already had to void and redo this once, due to the address being incorrect; but now I need to do it again because the SSN is showing in the wrong format, as a TIN

Welcome to the QuickBooks Community, emiller-sparksni.

Let me provide insights on how 1099s work in QuickBooks and ensure you can e-file this form with the correct information.

Yes, there's a way to e-file a new 1099 after you voided the first and second ones. However, please know that the contractor will also receive the rejected 1099. Thus, contractors will get another copy once the re-filed has been processed and approved by the IRS.

On the other hand, please note that Voiding is only relevant to 1099s in a rejected status. You can repeat the process if you receive the same declined result. In case the re-filed 1099 has not been accepted by the IRS and needs to be updated to the correct details, you may have to submit a manual amendment. Then, voiding this isn't needed. You can refer to this article to see the process: Correct or change 1099s in QuickBooks.

Lastly, you can read this article if you need extra guidelines on how to organize your 1099 in QBO so you have accurate data: Get answers to your 1099 questions.

Please don't hesitate to return to this thread whenever you need additional guidance in voiding your 1099 filing in QBO. I'll be more than glad to offer assistance, emiller-sparksni. Have a great day ahead.
