My company has QB online.  We wanted to use job costing with QB, but it did not meet our needs.  But now we would like to consider QB again for job costing.  I spoke to some accountants who said that QB job costing has dramatically changed.  Does anyone here use job costing through QB online? If so, could you tell me your experience with the software?

Are you running a construction company? Using QBO alone is not enough and you should consider having a 3rd party app to do so.

Hello there. It's nice to see you here again in the Community.

I'll gladly share some insights about the job costing (projects) feature so you can start tracking your project's profitability in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Yes, I agree with your accountants that QuickBooks made changes and updates to its projects feature. With it, you can easily add project income, expenses, and labor costs and run project-specific reports from a single dashboard. Then, you can also add old transactions to new or ongoing projects.

If you wish to know more about using projects to track your project’s profitability in QBO, please see this article: Set up and create projects in QuickBooks Online.

Also, you may want to check out this article as your reference to guide you in using projects to track labor costs and profitability in QBO: Track hourly labor costs and profitability by project in QuickBooks Online.

If you have other concerns about the projects feature or questions about tracking labor costs in QBO, please don't hesitate to comment below. I'm always ready to help. Take care, and stay safe.

Is there a way to add already completed projects into quickbooks, in order to attach receipts to these projects. It will not allow me to select a date in the past. Wondering if there is another way to go about this? Thank you
