Line Item Text Selection Issue - Major Annoyance, PLEASE FIX!!!

Anyone else have issues with this?

When I first starting using QuickBooks 3 years ago the text selection/edit was just like any other text editing app like word or any text entry box on any web site on the internet. However, at some point through gazillion changes and, uhhmm, "improvements" the text boxes no longer behave line any normal text entry.

Normally when you place your mouse pointer on text and click it places the curser wherever you clicked. Like in the middle of a word and you can start typing right there to add a letter or delete. Or you could select a word or section  and it will highlight that portion. But QuickBooks, at least on my end, no longer works like that. When you click text on a line item description, to drop your curser into text or highlight a section it acts like its going to do that, but then, it automatically selects all the text in the box. So if you were going to add a letter to a word or delete just a sentence it deletes your entire description and then you have to ctrl z, and finagle with it to make it do what you need it to.

This seems like a minor annoyance to complain about but on something like this, an absolutely standard universal text editing behavior on every other app or website on the planet, to expect users to adapt a behavior that is completely decades of muscle memory just because QuickBooks wants to make one text entry box behave differently than all others is crazy. (The bill to and ship to text boxes on the same form behave completely normal.) And the amount of time over-all since this change took place that I have spent to ctrl z and finagle the stupid thing every time I edit is enough to drive someone insane!

@TeleToast  And this is the program that QuickBooks is attempting to strongarm their Desktop users into migrating to.

One has to wonder at the thought process. Maybe they're just not able to datamine to their satisfaction on Desktop.

Having issues with selecting text in the line item will surely delay your working progress, @TeleToast. I understand the importance of editing the line item without automatically deleting the entire description.

Let me provide some insights on how to bypass the issue of selecting line items in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

To begin with, the option to automatically select all the text in the text box in QBO is working as designed. To prevent the entire line item description from being deleted, you can double-click on the word or sentence that you want to add or delete in the description, using the mouse pointer on your computer, before attempting to edit the sentence.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the transaction where you want to edit the description in the field.
  2. Select the description field and then click it again.

Once you've done this, you'll be able to edit the line item description without deleting the entire thing.

However, if you'd like to have the option to add a letter without deleting the entire description, I encourage you to share your thoughts and suggestions through our feedback channel. Our product developers are open to suggestions to improve our products and meet our customer's business needs.

Here's how:

  1. At the upper right corner, click the Gear icon.
  2. Under the Profile, select Feedback.
  3. Enter your comments or product suggestions.
  4. Then, select Next to submit a feedback.

I'll add this article for future reference in reconciling your accounts so they always match your bank and credit card statements: Reconcile an account.

If you have any concerns about the line item text selection, please tag me in the comment section, @TeleToast. I'll assist you in any way possible.

@Clark_B  Tell me that you didn't read what @TeleToast wrote without telling me you didn't read it.
