Question

Memo Line not pulling through to new bills for same vendor

Before, I was able to create a new bill for a vendor and the memo line would pull through, now the memo line is always blank. I cannot figure out why this isnt being pulled through to the new bills for the same vendor, as it used to be. I also tried using a different browser and clearing my cookies. Anyone know why Memo or Class wouldnt be pulling through to a new bill for a vendor used before??

Thanks for joining the Community, SelenaNelson. I appreciate your detailed information.

If your auto-recall feature doesn't appear to be pre-filling transactions, I'd initially recommend making sure it's turned on.

Here's how:

  1. Use the Gear (⚙) icon, then go to Account and settings.
  2. Access your Advanced tab and click the Pencil (✎) icon.
  3. Confirm Pre-fill forms with previously entered content to enable auto-recall is turned on. If its box is unchecked, tick it to activate it.
  4. If any changes were made, select Save, then Done.

In the event your auto-recall feature is active, but transactions aren't being pre-filled like you'd expect them to, there's a few things you'll want to be aware of.

When using auto-recall while creating bills, there's a couple different ways I've noticed that it works. If I access a vendor's profile, click my New transaction ▼ drop-down list, choose Bill, and fill out my transaction with its necessary details, when I'm finished, I can select Save and new. Doing so automatically creates a new bill, and pre-fills my Category details, Item details, and Memo sections once I specify the vendor I'm creating a bill for.

Here's an image showing how it works:

This can be repeated as many times as you'd like to by continuing to select Save and new after you've finished entering details for a bill.

On the other hand, if you finish entering a bill and use your Save and close option, then utilize the New transaction ▼ drop-down again and choose Bill, your Category details and Item details sections will be pre-filled with the auto-recalled data. This would include the classes assigned to the line items you've specified in both areas. While using auto-recall this way, your Memo textbox won't be pre-filled.

Here's an image showing how this process works:

I've also included a detailed resource about working with the auto-recall feature which may come in handy moving forward: How to use auto-recall to pre-fill transactions

If there's any additional questions, I'm just a post away. Have an awesome day!

I have pre-fill turned on and I have entered the bill the way you explained using the Save and New option and the memo line is still not being pulled through. I have tried this several times to make sure I was doing this correctly and everything else is being pulled through except the memo line.

Thanks for getting back with the Community, SelenaNelson.

Since your auto-recall feature isn't pre-filling transactions like it should, I'd recommend checking the browser you're using. It's possible this could have something to do with temporary internet files. Browsing applications store these types of records, but sometimes they can cause issues with certain webpages. You can open a private window and check to see if your transactions are pre-filled correctly.

Here's how to access incognito mode in some of the most commonly used web browsers:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl Shift N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl Shift P
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl Shift P
  • Safari: Command Option P

If transactions are being pre-filled properly while browsing privately, it's safe to say this problem's being caused by your browser. It can be fixed by clearing cached data and Intuit-specific cookies.

In the event your auto-recall feature continues not working correctly while browsing in incognito mode, you'll initially want to try switching to another browsing application.

Here's a list of supported browsers:

  • Google Chrome - version 78 or newer
  • Mozilla Firefox - version 76 or newer
  • Microsoft Edge - version 75 or newer
  • Opera - version 68 or newer
  • Samsung - version 10 or newer
  • Safari - version 12 or newer

QuickBooks supports the current and two previous versions of browsers. If you find that you're using an unsupported version, make sure to update it to its latest release. Steps for doing so can be found on the particular company's website.

In the event you've found no problems that could be causing this with your browser, you'll want to check the operating system and internet speed you're working with.

Here's our recommended operating systems and internet speeds:

  • Windows PC - Windows 10, Intel Core i3 or a comparable processor (2013 or newer) with at least 2 GB of RAM, or Windows 10, Intel Core i5 or comparable processor with at least 4 GB of RAM.
  • Mac - OS X El Capitan 10.11, OS X High Sierra 10.13, or newer.
  • Linux - QuickBooks works with Linux, but you'll want to make sure you're using a supported browser and our recommended internet speeds.
  • Internet connection - 1.5 Mbps to 3 Mbps or higher.

If you meet each of our system requirements, but your auto-recall feature continues not pre-filling transactions properly, I'd recommend using a different device and/or internet connection. If it continues happening on other devices and internet connections, you'll want to get in touch with our Customer Care team. They'll be able to pull up the account in a secure environment, conduct further research, and create an investigation ticket if necessary.

They can be reached while you're signed in.

Here's how:

  1. Use the Help (?) icon.

  2. Click Contact Us.

  3. Enter a description of your situation in the What can we help you with? field, then hit Let's talk.

  4. Select Start messaging or Get a call.

Be sure to review their support hours so you'll know when agents are available.
