Migrating QBO to QB Desktop Pro

I sold my business this past summer and had been using QBO for that company. I have no new transactions there but want to have access to the data for a few more months. I want to move that company from QBO to QB Desktop Pro and viewed the "Export your company file to QB Desktop" video numerous times but cannot complete the migration. I've spent HOURS trying to do this and was given the "Export my books" option from QB staff which was supposedly successful but they want $199 to complete the transfer! I'm already paying $65/mo for QBO and $649 last April for a yearly payment for QB Desktop. I do not want to spend another $199 to complete this task so yesterday I called QB Support and was told "this transfer is no longer supported by Quick Books". Is that true?

@Nancy2235  It may have to do with the QB Desktop year you're working with; past a certain point, they don't deal with prior year versions.

That being said, I suppose they weren't really supporting it in the first place; I've never done it myself, but this community is rife with stories about losing several aspects of their data during the migration.

There is a group on the community who'll probably reach out to you sometime today with alternative routes to move your data.

@Nancy2235

How many years of data do you need to convert from QB Online? Just the last 2 years or so?

Chrea, I was hoping to migrate at least 4 years (back to 2020) because I'm still awaiting a refund on my ERC (Employee Retention Credit) and my CPA told me that when that $$ arrives, she'll need to edit some tax returns from those years.

You said your license will expire in April next month. The renewal fee will be $999 + tax. If you buy the conversion service from export my book, you will spend more than $200 for 4 years. That means you need to pay more than $1,200 to keep your historical data. I would recommend contacting @Fiat Lux - ASIA  and they will offer you a lower fee to preserve your historical data.
