Question

My accountant is unable to access my account. She received the invitation. When she clicked on the "accept invitation" tab, she received a 403 forbidden error message.

Hello there, Rbroadrick.

Let's perform several travel troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue of my addressing your inquiry regarding the matter where your accountant cannot accept your invitation from your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account.

After 30 days, your invitation will expire. Let's not resend an invitation rather, let's delete the old invitations and then send a new invite to start afresh.

  1. Log into your QBO account as a primary admin.
  2. Go to Gear Icon ⚙ , then choose Manage Users.
  3. Pick the Accounting Firms tab.
  4. Search for your accountant firm.
  5. Click on the small arrow ▼ icon in the Action column, and then Delete. If you see any duplicates, you have to delete them.

However, if your account still accepts the invitation, ask your accountant to check their sign-in information by ensuring the invitation is addressed to their correct email address, which is tied to the user ID they used to sign in to their QBO account.

Here's how:

  1. Open the invitation email.
  2. Commune Accept Invitation.
  3. Log into the existing user ID and password.

If the recipient is still unable to accept the invitation, we should rule out the possibility of this as a browser-related issue. To do so, open a private or incognito browser and access your QBO account to accept the invitation. Below are the keyboard shortcuts you can use:

  1. Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  2. Safari 11 or newer: ⌘ + Shift + N
  3. Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  4. Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + N

Once you have opened your QBO account, go to the invitation email and right-click the Accept Invitation.  This will open the sign-in page on your computer with a manual operation. Enter the username and password of your QBO account.

If you can accept the invitation from there, return to your regular browser and clear its cache. It'll help clean up browser cookies that block web pages from loading.
