New Invoice Experience - Summary Bills and Linking Time

The New Invoice Experience sucks in that it limits customization, forcing me back to an old layout where I was able to summarize all of my time entries into a single line for a description of the professional services provided.  To get rid of excess lines, I had to delete them, which is unlinking them.  This leaves those time entries showing as unbilled, which they are not.  Is there something behind the scenes where I can link them to the invoice???

Otherwise this will completely mess up my unbilled time reporting and analysis on project productivity.

This is not helping my business, Intuit, and whomever you have designing this stuff isn't being very INTUITive about your users needs!!!

Hello there, Martha.

I understand the importance of consolidating all time entries into a single description of professional services. At the moment, QuickBooks does not currently offer the option to summarize bill entries into a single-line description.

Moreover, since this functionality is more convenient for you, I recommend sending a request to our product engineering team so they can consider adding this feature in future updates. Here's how:

  1. Click the Gear icon, then select Feedback.
  2. Enter your comments or product suggestions.
  3. Select Next to submit feedback.

If you want to learn how to invoice unbilled time activities automatically, you can check this article: Automatically invoice unbilled time activities in QuickBooks Online.

Feel free to visit the Community if you have further questions about summarizing bills and linking time in QBO. The Community forum is always glad to help you.

Thank you for getting back to me.  While I understand that there isn't the ability to summarize a bunch of time entries into one now, that was a key functionality before the development team rolled out the new invoice experience.

While I appreciate you and you getting back to me (as in not shooting the messenger), I really don't appreciate the decisions your design and development team are making.

This is a huge, unanticipated downside to our migration from desktop to QBO. I've tried the Bundle option ( which doesn't allow adding the sync'd entries). My current work around - open the invoice - add the expenses individually, add one line manually with the total, delete the expenses from the invoice, they will pop up in the ribbon on the side again (why can't there be an option to leave unbilled) and then mark them individually unbillable.

Ugh. It also means the Unbilled Time report is a zillion pages longer. Really hoping someone who can fix this is reading these 🙂

I understand the significance of having the bundle feature to add up the sync'd entries, BookInSeattle.

I was responding to a post that said the collapse details setting in invoices would create a summary. They said it showed as summarized in print even though it didn’t look that way in the invoice creation screen. Both things seem false. It looks the same and neither view collapses the detail. I want one invoice line for all hours for a client in a period at a rate for a service by an employee. I can only do it manually now and therefore can’t mark the hours as billed manually so the unbilled list will grow as well.
