New Invoices and Estimates removed Subtotals and Don't Allow Editing of Bill To and Ship To Addresses?

So, the "new and improved" invoices rolled out.

What was the thinking behind removing subtotals and not allowing editing of Bill To and Ship To addresses at the estimate/invoice level?

There are more issues as well, but these are the biggest... you made your product worse?

Sometimes I wonder if the person making decisions actually has run a business at all.

I recognize the challenges you experience with the new layout, StageCreations. I'm here to guide you on how to add subtotal to your estimates and invoices.

With the new version, you can easily add subtotals of estimates and invoices.

Here's how:

  1. On the upper left panel, select the + New button.
  2. Under Customers choose Invoice or Estimates.
  3. Scroll down and look for Add product or service field.
  4. Click the Dropdown menu, then Add subtotal.

As your future reference, I've added this article in case you want to personalize and add specific info to your sales forms: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online.

Welcome to the Community, @bvstone.

I recognize the importance of having features like subtotals and being able to edit out our Bill To and Shipping Address in your invoice. But our Product Engineers have removed the Subtotal feature for good.

Seeing that this is a significant feature for you, you can send feedback to our Product Engineers so they know what to add to the next update. Here's how:

  1. Click on the Gear icon.
  2. In the Profile section, select Feedback.
  3. Write your comments and product suggestions.
  4. Click Next to submit.

With the new update, I can understand how confusing it is to edit your Bill To and Shipping Address on your invoices. It is still possible to edit both. Let me guide you on how:

Add a shipping address to your customer's profile

  1. Log in to your QuickBooks Online account.
  2. Go to Sales, then Customers.
  3. Choose the customer you want to edit.
  4. Select Edit.
  5. Under the Shipping address field ,uncheck the Same as billing address checkbox.
  6. Enter the shipping address.
  7. Press Save.

Add the shipping address to invoices

  1. Select + New, then Invoices.
  2. Select Add Customer and choose a customer from the dropdown.
  3. Create the invoice as you normally would.
  4. Click Manage, then select Customization.
  5. Under Customization, turn on the Ship to switch, and a preview of the ship address will display on the invoice.
  6. Press Save.

If you want to know how to get paid for what you sell, send a customer an invoice, and add a product or service you're selling in an invoice: Create invoices in QuickBooks Online.

Those, again, are non answers.

Subtotals are important.  Period.  Poll your customers.

As for editing bill to and ship to, that should be able to be done on the invoice itself.  I'm not going to go edit a customer each time I do an invoice.  Again, poll your customers to see how important it is.

I have offered many suggestions from the software.  Trust me.  Because it's going from bad to worse... Not worth1/2 of what we're paying and all these changes are just making things impossible to run a business.

@bvstone  RE: Because it's going from bad to worse... Not worth1/2 of what we're paying and all these changes are just making things impossible to run a business.

Oh, come on now, why would you need subtotals? Or really, any amounts on an invoice? Honestly, why should you be able to edit an invoice at all? Items? You probably don't need them. Editable descriptions? No one needs that.  You want to print invoices where the addresses actually fit? Seems like a luxury.

If only Intuit would take away all of these features from Desktop too, then I wouldn't be burdened with having to actually bill my customers in a way they understand. That sure would help!

Subtotals are not an optional feature of invoicing. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE put them back. Our customers REQUIRE subtotals, as do hundreds of thousands of other companies.

Removing the ability to do subtotals is TOTAL NONSENSE. Like seriously, whomever approved that choice should have been fired yesterday. This is ACCOUTNING software, is it not? Subtotals is an absolutely mission critical feature!

How did you get the old invoicing system back?  I'm still struggling with the new version and desperate to get my old version back...

May 20, 2024

the button in your invoice that says "add product or services" is actually a drop down and you can add a subtotal there.

They made it worse in every conceivable way.  Intuit, do you not test your updates?  Do your engineers even think about what they are doing?
