Question

No default sounds after doing a clean install for QB 2019 Pro.

This is a Windows 10 issue, I'm sure. It's screwed up a lot of programs that were stable in Windows 7.

I cannot find the sound files used by QuickBooks 2019 Pro. I know where to set the sounds but they are set to nothing. Is there a place to download them because I believe they did not get installed in this last clean install I did.  The QuickBooks Tool Hub did not help either.

We can look into our company's preferences, SprhdMM.

I'll show you how to set the sounds within our QuickBooks Desktop company file.

  1. Go to the Edit menu and then select Preferences
  2. Click Desktop View from the menu.
  3. Select Sounds under the Windows Settings section.
  4. Update the sounds and make it set it to default.
  5. Click OK and then OK again.

Now we can try opening and closing a transaction to hear the sound.

You can always reach out to me if you need more help with setting up your preferences. Take care!

This didn't work. I tried it before I posted this.
Does anyone else have any suggestions? For instance, where the actual QB sound files reside?

I found the sounds for QB pro 2012 in: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Intuit\QuickBooks

I also found that only the qmem.wav file actually works. In Win 11, I clicked on  system>sound>more sound settings & got a pop up menu. There I clicked on the sounds tab, scrolled down in the Program events list until I saw QuickBooks. I just changed all of my sounds (record transactions, delete transaction, warning, etc) to that qmem.wav by highlighting each item (e.g. Delete a Recorded Transaction), browsing the sounds and changing each to qmem.wav.
