Question

No longer able to backup my QB file

For the past month I have not been able to backup my Quickbook file.  I am running MAC OS  Sonoma 14.1.1.  My last backup was in November.    I get an error message stating backup failed.  "QuickBooks was unable to back up your company file.  QuickBooks could not copy the company file."   I have tried different drives, external and internal.  I have tried saving it as a new company as well.   When I try to save it as an accountant copy, it asks to verify the backup. Then I get a Verify Failed message: "Your company data has failed verification. You can either cancel the backup to QuickBooks for Windows, and rebuild your company data by selecting Rebuild Data in the Utilities menu under the File menu, or continue with the backup."  With tax season coming up I dont want to mess with rebuilding the file and corrupting any data and losing any transactions.  Please help.

I am running QuickBooks for Desktop Mac 2021 Version V20/0.12 R13.3

Duplicate your file manually and run the verify/rebuild data utility on the duplicated file. If the same error persists, consider to purchase a 3rd party file repair service.

I can assist you with backing up your QuickBooks (QB) file, @S_Carroll

To resolve the issue, you can follow the suggestion provided by @4Gal above.

Also, you can delete the PLIST files from both the User and System folder. This will reset all preferences to their default settings, and you can create the backup without any trouble. Here are the steps:

Deleting User PLIST

  1. Go to the Finder menu.
  2. Hold the Option key, then select Library.
  3. Open the Preferences folder.
  4. Look for PLIST files that contain com.intuit.QuickBooks20XX, then transfer them to trash. XX is the QB version you’re using.
  5. Empty the trash.

Deleting System PLIST

  1. Open a new Finder window, then pull up the Macintosh HD.
  2. Go to Library, then select the Preferences folder.
  3. Locate PLIST files that contain com.intuit.QuickBooks20XX, then move them to trash. XX is the QB version you’re using.
  4. Clear the trash.

If the issue persists, I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Desktop for Mac support team.
