I recently changed to the online version and now I can only see one business that I had on the desktop version.  How do I retrieve the other businesses that I had?

One QBO account is for one company file. You should stay with QB Desktop to manage multi company files. Unless you have another concern.

Hi there, McJs. I understand the importance of accessing your multiple company files in your QuickBooks Online account.

Yes, 4Gal is correct. Each company file added is its own paid subscription, but you access them with the same sign-in info.

To add a new company, please visit our QuickBooks pricing page and select the subscription you want to have. Doing so initiates one of these two experiences:

  • If you're already signed in to QuickBooks, you'll be asked to confirm the account with which you want to sign in. Select Yes, that's correct if the account displayed is the one you want to use for the new company file.
  • If you haven't signed in yet, you'll be prompted to create an Intuit account. Fill out this form only if you want to link your new company file to a new account. Look for the Adding a company to an existing account? section and click the Sign in button to add company. Then, sign in with the QuickBooks user ID and password you already have.

If you use more than one email address or user ID for different QBO companies, you can learn how to access multiple companies with a single login by reading this article: Sign in to multiple QuickBooks Online companies with one user ID.

Once all of your companies are under the same login, you can quickly switch between them. Check out this resource for a complete guide: Switch between company files in QuickBooks Online.

Do you have any additional questions? Just leave them in the comments section. I'll get back to you as soon as I can. Have a great day.
