Question

POS 19.0

Trouble opening POS 19 -- could be a QB issue and/or a Microsoft Windows 10 issue.

Suddenly, for some reason, when I open POS 19, a dialogue box pops up saying I may need a Windows Administrator password.  (I am logged in as an admin.)  I click "Next", the dialogue doesn't change, click "Next" again.  At this point, Windows Controller dialogue opens and asks if I want to allow QB Utilities Setup to make changes to my device.  I click "Yes", and it just loops back to the first QB dialogue box. (When this has happened in the past, when I clicked Yes, it proceeded to open POS.)  Thoughts?

Thanks for the comprehensive details you've added regarding your concern with accessing your POS, Beowoof. I have some information and troubleshooting steps to help you get going.

The Windows Administrator error related to QuickBooks POS is an indicator that:

  • The QuickBooks folder permissions configuration is incorrect.
  • POS software installation is damaged.
  • The user accessing POS is not signed in as an administrator or doesn't have administrative privileges.
  • The workstation's operating system is damaged.

There are several procedures that you can choose from to get this issue fixed. Please refer to the steps provided below.

For solution 1: Ensure you've run the POS 19 software as administrator. Here's how:

  1. Locate the POS 19 software icon on your device's home screen.
  2. Right-click on the icon.
  3. Choose the Run as administrator option.

Solution 2: Restart the POS Database Manager:

  1. Click the Windows and buttons on your keyboard simultaneously.
  2. Enter services.msc in the text field, then tick the OK button.
  3. Locate the QBPOS Database Manager XXXX (where XX represents the version of Point Of Sale) from the list of running services and set the startup type to Automatic.
  4. Search for and right-click on the Intuit Entitlement Service v8.
  5. Select the Properties option and set its startup type to Automatic.
  6. After that, Restart the service.

Solution 3: Generate a new Windows Administrator:

  1. Press your Windows Start button and select All programs/All apps.
  2. Open the Windows Small Business Server and then the Windows SBS Console.
  3. Choose the Users and Groups option to add a new account.
  4. Fill out and Enter all the necessary details the system is asking for.
  5. From the Add a new User Account prompt, select Administrator as the User type. After that, hit Finish.
  6. Once asked to close QuickBooks, press your Windows key and type open the Control Panel. From there, pick the User Accounts option.
  7. Look for the QBDataServiceUserXX (XX is your QuickBooks version). Then, tick the option to Change the account type and set it to Administrator.
  8. Finally, hit Apply to save the reconfigured settings.

Meanwhile, the 4th solution is to modify the User Account Control (UAC) in Windows. Please check this link for the steps: Change User Account Control (UAC) in Windows.
