Hi all, I'm the new controller for a company that is using Quickbooks Desktop. I'm going over the chart of accounts and they use many sub accounts. Is there any way that I can print some type of report that shows which parent account the sub account is a member of? The only way I see so far is to open each account card which is very time consuming. Thanks in advance.

@CMEnfant  Should be able to open the Chart of Accounts window from the Lists menu.

From that window, you can click the Reports button to open a new submenu containing 'Account Listing'.

When the report generates, click on Filters in the top left and remove the Active Status filter.

This report will show your entire chart of accounts with parents and subs grouped together.

For instance the following would be one such group taking up a cluster of four lines on the report:

Supplies

Supplies: Cleaning Supplies

Supplies: Kitchen Supplies

Supplies: Office Supplies

Unfortunately that didn't do the trick. This is for the Desktop version. Taking the account list from reports, it shows the account, type, balance, description, account # and tax line. No groupings for parents and sub accounts.

@CMEnfant  I don't use QBO; this advice was for Desktop.

Subaccounts are always listed directly below the parent on the chart of accounts and, by extension, the account list report.

Maybe I'm not understanding exactly what you're asking for, but this report definitely does group them.
