Product Category Grouping

How do I view my products by category?  I do not have the grouping option in the settings.

Hi there, @YESS LLC. I'd be happy to assist you in viewing your products by category in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

To view your products by category in QBO, you can apply filters to the Products and Services tab. By filtering the tab by category, you can easily see all the products that belong to a specific category. Here's how you can do it:

 

  1. Click on the Gear icon and select Products and Services.
  2. Click on the filter icon.
  3. Select Category and tick the categories that apply from the Category dropdown arrow.
  4. Hit Apply. 


Please see the attached image below:

 

Alternatively, if you're pulling up the Product/Service List report, grouping it by category is not possible. However, you can export the report to Excel and then customize it further.

This only filters out a particular category.  I am looking to be able to view the products by category.  Here is an example.  Do you see how 'sprinklers' and 'pest control' are titles?

Let me help you group your products by category.

 

Based on your example screenshot, you should be able to put a checkmark in the Compact and Group by Category box in the Product and services Gear icon. Here's how:

 

  1. Go to Sales and select Products & services.
  2. Click the Gear icon in the right-hand corner below.
  3. Below the Rows, tick the box of Compact and Group by category. See the screenshot below for reference:

I can see the significance of grouping the products by its category in QuickBooks Online (QBO), @YESS LLC.

 

Since you've upgraded to advanced, the option to view the products by its category is unavailable in QBO because of the compact mode option. 

 

I encourage you to send feedback to our Product Development Team. We promptly review customer requests and consider them when prioritizing product enhancements. 

 

Here's how: 

 

  1. Sign in to your company.
  2. Click the Gear icon, then choose Feedback.
  3. Enter your comments in the description box.
  4. Once done, hit Next.
